Chuck Reid: Michigan's 2010 Small Business Person of the Year
Chuck Reid, president and owner of Charter House Innovations (CHi) and owner of LEEDThe U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) sanctions Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). LEED is a green rating system and certification program nationally accepted as a benchmark for design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings.
www.usgbc.org Gold certified CityFlats Hotel, was personally commended by President Obama during a speech honoring the nation's Small Business People of the Year Award winners. Reid was also one of three award winners selected to speak privately with President Obama in the Oval Office.
Reid, named by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) as Michigan's Small Businessman of the Year for 2010, was invited to the White House as part of National Small Business Week. Reid and 52 other state SBA winners attended a group luncheon and enjoyed a keynote Rose Garden address from President Obama.
CHi, which operates in a 160,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Holland, Mich., is a leading designer and manufacturer of seating and décor for quick service restaurants, hotels, universities, and fine dining establishments. In the past six years, CHi's sales have quintupled and a sales force of two has expanded into an experienced and enthusiastic team of 18 representatives, who service both national and international customers. CHi also boasts one of the largest in-house interior design firms in the country and employs a diverse group of engineers, project managers, and custom builders, many of whom have over twenty years experience in the industry.
CityFlats Hotel in downtown Holland, Michigan is a 56 room boutique hotel with a fifth-floor bistro. The hotel, which opened in January of 2007, was constructed in compliance with rigorous LEED Gold Certification standards and boasts a number of eco-friendly elements. A second CityFlats location will begin renovation in downtown Grand Rapids in late 2010.
